The reason the US cannot win the war is because it is not truthful about it's goals. If their mission was to destroy the country and kill all people in it, they would be more likely to succeed. It is not clear what they are trying to do. They say they want democracy but they choose who the candidates for the election. The Iraqi people want no part of the US.

Maybe part of the current strategy is to allow the country to fall into civil war and thus allow the Iraqis to kill off themselves. It also detracts from the US solders from being targets. The problem with this method is that it is too slow. It would be better if they sent millions of troops and locked down the country in a few weeks. They should then post a list of rules all Iraqis must follow. They should install a new dictator that is as bad as Saddam. I guess the rest of the world would be even more outraged if they conducted the war that way. Yet it could have been over by now and they would have owned the country.
