Meditation is a better way to achieve the states induced by mushrooms. The problem is it takes years of disciplined practice to become good enough to achieve the state through meditation. Mushrooms are instant and consistent. The problem with mushrooms it is like throwing some one who does not know how to swim into the ocean. They may become terrified that they may drown. With meditation you build up to that level and you know how to handle yourself.  The problem with meditation is that our society it not conducive to the practice of meditation. Our life is so busy and full that we have no time to slow down and quiet the mind. Isn't it funny that mushrooms are illegal and meditation is not encouraged?

One of the reasons mushrooms are illegal and are discouraged is because people like a smooth surface to there reality.  The experiences of mushrooms cause ripples in the surface. People need to start questioning what is and that is not good for the people who are expected to answer the questions. The government, the church, the teachers, the parents ... all the traditions sources for our answers. They do not know what this is nor do they care to suggest an answer. Maybe their reality is not correct and they have too much ego to admit they are wrong and incomplete.
